My generations Granny Holland was born Carrie Viola Foster. She did not like the name Carrie. She first married Joseph Daniel Davis from Davie county. Joseph's lineage includes a paternal grandmother who was Ashsal ( Axie ) Vestal. While I have not explored this Vestal line, I do know that the Vestals were some of the first settlers on the Yadkin River. Daniel Vestal Davis was the father of Joseph. Daniel was born in Yadkin and moved sometime to neighboring county , Davie.
Daniel died 24 NOV 1921 • Mocksville, Davie Co., NC. His son, Joseph died just a few days later
4 DEC 1921 • Winston-Salem, NC. 2020 has been a hard year for us, I can not imagine how 1921 was for my grandmother and her young children as losing a grandfather and father within a week of each other. Joseph Davis died of a heart attack and I have been told that his father died of heart issues.
